TESTING TRANSPARENCY

Read the result. Understand the limitations.

Backtests are useful for studying how fixed rules behaved on historical data. They are not live trading records, forecasts or guarantees. This page identifies exactly what the published Breaksmith summary displays and what buyers should verify independently.

CORRECT INTERPRETATION

What a backtest can and cannot show

It can help examine

  • How programmed rules respond to historical prices
  • Trade frequency and sequencing in the test data
  • Historical drawdown under the selected assumptions
  • Whether the strategy logic behaves as intended

It cannot establish

  • Guaranteed future profit or drawdown
  • Identical execution at every broker
  • Protection from gaps, slippage or abnormal spreads
  • How future market structure will develop

MATERIAL VARIABLES

Conditions that can change the outcome

EA results can vary when any of the following changes. A responsible comparison uses the same version, risk mode and test assumptions wherever possible.

  • 01
    Price data and modelling

Broker history, tick quality, gaps and timezone differences can alter entry and exit sequences.

  • 02
    Trading costs

Spread, commission, swap and slippage reduce results and may be materially worse during volatile periods.

  • 03
    Contract specifications

XAUUSD symbol names, lot steps, tick values and contract sizes vary between brokers.

  • 04
    Risk selection

Conservative, Balanced, High-Risk and fixed-lot settings produce very different exposure and drawdown.

  • 05
    Execution environment

Latency, rejected orders, terminal interruptions and VPS reliability affect live results but may not appear in a simulation.

  • 06
    Economic-news filtering

The MetaTrader strategy tester cannot reproduce Breaksmith’s live economic-news filter, so historical tests do not include that live feature.

BUYER CHECKLIST

How to evaluate Breaksmith responsibly

  1. Choose the correct platform.MT4 and MT5 are separate products and must match the installed terminal.
  2. Use the free MQL5 demo.Test the current version with the broker and Gold symbol you intend to use.
  3. Include realistic costs.Use representative spreads, commissions and execution delay rather than idealised assumptions.
  4. Start with controlled exposure.Conservative settings make it easier to assess behaviour without immediately taking aggressive risk.
  5. Compare with forward behaviour.A live or demo forward period reveals conditions that historical testing cannot reproduce.
  6. Judge over sufficient time.A few trades or a short favourable period is not enough to establish robustness.

Important risk warning

Trading foreign exchange and precious metals involves substantial risk and may not be suitable for every investor. Leverage and aggressive position sizing can produce rapid losses, including the loss of the entire trading balance. Backtests, simulations and historical results do not guarantee future performance. Demo testing, adequate capitalisation, conservative settings and continuous monitoring are strongly recommended before live use.
